The wood

This log came from my family farm. The Ash trees in our area have been devastated by the emerald ash borer over recent years. We actively search out the ash trees which have just started to be impacted by the infestation and save the wood. We fell them and mill the pieces that still have good wood left. It’s sad to see this happening to our forests so I find comfort knowing the wood we save can be made into a paddle which will last for years. The other species of wood I use are sourced locally with origin in mind. I pick species I know grow naturally in and around the Ottawa area.
